A Rich History Preserved
Originally built in the Meiji era by a wealthy merchant who moved to Hakodate from Honboku, this house has a storied past. The merchant, who made his fortune in Hakodate, intended this as a villa, a place of elegance and tranquility. Throughout the years, the house has seen many changes, surviving great wars and fires during the Showa era. Despite these challenges, it has retained its historical charm, serving as a poignant reminder of Japan's rich cultural heritage.
A Masterpiece of Renovation
Our renovation efforts have transformed this historic villa into a modern marvel while carefully preserving its historical essence. The house now spans just under 4,000 square feet, set on over an acre of lush greenery, and was acquired for $5 million. Each renovation decision was made with respect for the building's past, ensuring that its character shines through even as we introduce contemporary elements.
The Epitome of Elegance
The house boasts three exquisite tea rooms, each with its own unique charm. The “Matsubaan,” named by the 15th Urasenke Iemoto, Sen Soshitsu, stands as a highlight. Here, clients can immerse themselves in the serene beauty of traditional tea ceremonies, surrounded by seasonal flowers and trees. Every office offers a different perspective of the garden, each more breathtaking than the last.

Our newly created garden has already received the prestigious Japanese Garden Award, a blessing for our dedication to excellence. This serene oasis can be admired from various vantage points within the house, including a luxurious jacuzzi and an indoor bath. In one corner of the garden, an authentic white-walled storehouse stands as a nod to the past. With two floors above ground and one below, this storehouse adds to the historical ambiance of the property, blending seamlessly with the modern amenities we have introduced.
